The Weekly Round-up: August 20

Your source for news, upcoming releases, and what to check out in the large world of music

Headlines

  • The Rolling Stones have vaguely promised that some "big news" is coming from their camp very soon! The band posted the announcement on Twitter a few days ago. As for the news itself one can safely assume it is a coming announcement for the bands much speculated world tour celebrating their 50th anniversary next year. Via Ultimate Classic Rock
  • Lamb of God surprised many this weekend with their appearance at Knotfest. This was the bands first show since lead singer Randy Blythe was recently released from jail in the Czech Republic for manslaughter charges associated with a fans death at a Lamb of God show there in 2010. The band had recently canceled their summer shows so the appearance was a great surprise for metal fans. Via Loudwire
  • Willie Nelson had to be hospitalized over the weekend in Colorado cancelling a show he was to play in Denver. The 79 year old Nelson was admitted to hospital after "suffering from breathing problems due to the high altitude and emphysema." Here’s hoping the country music legend has a speedy recovery. • And finally the reunion that you have all been waiting for... Well, sort of. The Jonas Brothers have announced that they will be performing at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for a one night show on October 11. The performance will be the bands first after a two year break. Perhaps even more exciting for you fans than the show is the fact that the band is expected to release a new studio album in 2013. Super! Via KOvideo

We Remember

Sadly Scott McKenzie was confirmed to have passed away this weekend at the age of 73. McKenzie is best remembered for writing San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) in 1967 which became an anthem for the 1960’s hippie and counterculture movement. In memory of Scott you can listen to his hit song below. Via BBC

Upcoming Festival

While Burning Man is not solely a music festival it’s one that can’t go without mentioning. The weeklong festival held in the arid desert of Nevada is notorious for radical artistic expression, strange community and many more bizarre things (just Google image the damn thing and you’ll know what I mean). If you have next week off then go check it out, if there are any tickets left that is! I hear it’s unlike anything else in this world.

Full details on the festival here at http://www.burningman.com/
